Dreams of Young Days The fingers and toes of those whispering pines Reminds me of how all life is divine In dreams of young days, as in younger than mine Lava red sunsets are carved in my mind And circles are draw upon palms outstretched With charcoal and resin from holy scents I speak not a word on night quests to Mars The moon, she will soon return If you did stay where the old man asked you to be With your body unfurled in the sheets Never would you be in these moments with me As our minds sail away with our sandy deep knees I will wait for you as long as it takes ‘til you’ll be mine again I will wait for you as long as it takes ‘til you’ll be mine again When doubt turns to raging waterfalls With arms outstretched embracing the world I let go of the stories I’ve told Raise a toast to the morning sun If you’d never strayed to where the young lad asked you to see Golden hues in the emerald plains Never would you see those mountains of green How they’re painted the colors God made them I will wait for you as long as it takes ‘til you’ll be mine again I will wait for you as long as it takes ‘till you’ll be mine again And I will stay with you as long as it takes ‘til you’ll come back to me The fingers and toes of those whispering pines Reminds me of how all life is divine In dreams of young days, as in younger than mine Lava red sunsets are carved in my mind (x3)

The Lonely Hunter They say the heart is A lonely hunter But I say the heart is An eager huntress She knows the whispers of the forest She knows the way the river winds and bends They say that life is Like one single flame But I say that life is A wildfire that’s burning And it grows out across the plains And it grows despite my desire to extinguish it I went down to the water’s edge to pray And to ask for guidance The river said, “You are blessed, for I’ve got a message.” She said, “I’ll be the water if you’ll be the fire, We’ll greet each other and we will fly higher.” I said, “I’ll be the fire if you’ll be the water, We’ll greet each other and we’ll become stronger And stronger and stronger.” They say that love is pleasure, poison, or pain But I say that love is the heartbeat that sustains Undying like the embers The flame always will return again Oh uh oh uh oh oh uh oh uh oh Oh uh oh uh oh oh uh oh uh oh oh oh

Over, Out 02:59
Over, Out You’re asking me to lose all I’ve built in my heart for you You’re asking me to choose A weapon or a kiss But in the night it feels alright In the light it hurts my pride In the night we’re darkest But in the light we’re honest Pull me in, push me away I’ll play the fool but What’s at stake, what we’ve got to lose Pull me in, push me away, I’ll play the fool but What’s at stake, what we’ve got to lose You’re building all we’ve broken I’ve broken all we’ve built You’ve asked me to stop it Before we’ve made it through But I’m sober now I’m sober, but just for now And I’m doin’ well in spite of This ole’ habit, I just… Can’t lose you when I love you like I do I can’t lose you when I love you like I do I can’t lose you when I love you like I do I can’t lose you when I love you like I love you like I do But we’re over now We’re over, but just for now We’re over, out We’re over, out But we’re over now We’re over, but just for now We’re over, out We’re over, out

Those Who Knew You When A passenger train stops for the night Tossed around luggage curled up by her side She’s been Kissed by the President Fooled by the military men Heart crushed by the man who came knocking at her door with the papers Charmed by the Irishman who said, “You’re my wife incarnate” She moved with the poise of a Pastor’s wife But she spoke with a smirk and that’s what he liked It’s harder to say, it’s easier to do You’ve been busy breaking all over me Now I’m busy breaking all over you Once when you were sick you got better, I can’t say that now it’s true When you lay heavy on wine, I lay heavy too He’ll wrap you up as your lover and lay down He’ll wrap you up and kiss you with those lips of ages Outside of her parents’ sits a broken-down Chevy Suburban She’s been Blessed by the nunnery Worked her way through University Made friends with the baker, who recently left her husband Mothered the girls who were struggling to find their purpose Now they wrap you up in your crocheted blankets We curl up as you visit with those who knew you when You pull her up and let her cuddle in with her best friend Her silver Sebring is stashed in the garage for winter She’s been Kneading dough so steady and consistent Gifting down all the wisdom she’s collected Promising her grandkids those eventual millions When the money rolls in, she’ll be sure to split it even Now my mother’s pinned up the number for Dr. Ignaziak We lift you up the stairs to your new hospital bed He tricked you in to stomaching all your medicine Losing you is the hardest thing I’ll ever have to do Losing you is the hardest thing I’ll ever have to do Losing you is the hardest thing I’ll ever have to do Losing you is the greatest thing I’ve ever been through Light, the thread that binds The waking hours with the night With death, your hand’s in mine, Now you breathe through me, I find faith in the generation of new life I find faith in the generation of new life Well it’s harder to say, it’s easier to do. You’ve been busy breaking all over me, Now I’m busy breaking over you. Once when you were sick, you got better I can’t say that now it’s true When your eyes laid heavy over time, My eyes laid heavy too. We wrapped you up like a baby and laid you down We wrapped you up like a baby and tucked you in And I wrapped me up like a baby and gave in And I wrapped me up like a baby and gave in

about

'Crossing Over' is a 4-song EP, written and recorded as the final project for Zoë Mullan-Stout's Bachelor's Degree at Goddard College in 2018.

These songs draw inspiration from influences in world music, and explore themes of vulnerability, processing grief & loss, and catharsis through self-expression.

The songs are also part of a multimedia performance piece, entitled Crossing Over, which combines original music, visual art, and documentary poetics as a way to explore themes of vulnerability, courage, grief, and catharsis through self-expression.
